Last week I spent the week in Dudley, Birmingham delivering training to health care professionals on the topic of childhood obesity. This was part of my work with Nutrinsight, on a programme called “Why Wait to Talk About Weight”.
The training covers a wide range of material including statistics on childhood obesity, identifying obesity in the community and what nutrition and activitiy messages we should be delivering to parents and children in the UK. The most important part of the training however, is a focus on raising the issue of weight and the use of motivational interviewing techniques in encouraging behaviour change.
I have been delivering this training now for a number of years and it is always received very well. Here are a few quotes from delegates who attended the training last week…
I’m feeling more confident in myself to raise concerns I have regarding children’s weight (and to) tackle weight issues more – or at least discuss with parents getting their views and opinions – empower them to make changes
I feel more passionate about preventing obesity and supporting families and children
I felt it was very useful for my job role, Charlotte delivered really well and answered any questions I had.
And I thought I would share some photos from the venue where I delivered training at Himley Hall, Dudley.
