Every year for the last 3 years I’ve been asked to come along and speak at The Baby Show. It’s a really big deal because it’s one of the largest and most popular events for parents and parents to be in the UK. Parents obviously go to the event to find out details about babies. What do I do, what do I need and how do I even start! That’s one of the reasons I love being part of it. Parenting can be a nerve wracking journey and having a whole host of advice/products/support in one place can be super helpful.
At The Baby Show they put on talks such as First Aid for babies, Sleep workshops & Breastfeeding support groups too. I’m also there talking all about my favourite topic – feeding babies!
What’s is The Baby Show all about?
The Baby Show is the UK’s leading pregnancy & parenting event. It takes place annually in three locations – London x 2 & Birmingham. Apparently the show every year reaches around 70,000 visitors, which is quite a number.
The show features products, brands and parenting experts like myself. Really (I think) it helps to get parents excited and ready for their parenting journey.
What do I do at The Baby Show?
I’ve been to The Baby Show as part of other brands before, delivering demonstrations, talking about new products and even new foods on the market. However recently I’ve been invited there as a speaker. They have a main stage where speakers go on and talk live to very large audiences which I have done for the last three years. They also have a very new “Weaning Kitchen” where experts/brands and chefs go to do some fantastic demonstrations on how to create meals and foods for baby.
Live Stage Talks
My favourite is the live stage talks where I usually deliver my “Weaning Masterclass” A whistle stop tour through weaning – covering everything parents need to know to kick of their weaning journey with confidence.
I cover during this:
- How to start
- What to start with
- What to do about textures
- How to introduce finger foods
- As well as some main top tips from me.
Each year the stage is packed (usually because I’ve had a celebrity like Stacy Solomon or Giovanna Fletcher speak before me), but this year was the best by far! All bums on seats and some fantastic Q and As from the audience at the end.
Weaning Kitchen
For the last two years I’ve also delivered a Finger Foods Demo at the weaning kitchen. Initially I was just testing the water and seeing what worked. However, last year I had support from Katarina Martinez-Thomas, who was fantastic and it went SO smoothly.
During this session I usually:
- Talk about the importance of finger foods
- Demonstrate what a first finger foods should look like
- Talk about the best foods to offer
- Cook the finger foods right there and then so parents can see how easy it can be
- Talk about concerns around choking and gagging.
I was so very excited to be returning for an EXTRA SPECIAL Baby Show in May 2020 which was planned to be the launch of Wean in 15. Joe and I were going to go live on stage & also be in the weaning kitchen every day. Unfortunately The Baby Show has been postponed this year due to the current coronovirus situation. I’ll certainly be back another year so watch this space.
Additionally I’m going to be doing a Takeover & Live Q and A on The Baby Show’s Instagram Page on Wednesday 8th April at 8.00 pm – so tune in for that!
