I love using Avocado as a quick pasta sauce option. This is another one of my quick and easy (and nutrient rich) meal ideas for babies and toddlers.
It also helps to make a change from tomato sauce on pasta too, doesn’t it? If you do get fed up with just using tomatoes on pasta, check out my blog on Pasta sauces that aren’t tomato.
I love it when a meal is as simple as cooking pasta and mashing up an avocado, so here goes, here is the recipe:
Ingredients
- Makes enough for 2-4 pasta toppings:
- 1 medium avocado, mashed
- Large pinch of garlic granuals
- A splash of olive oil
- 1 dessert spoon of chickpeas (smashed for younger babies)
- A pinch of paprika
- You can also add a squeeze of lemon and, if you’re wanting it more “saucy”, a dollop of plain yogurt too.
Method:
1.) Basically add all ingredients to a bowl, mash it to desired texture and then add on top of cooked pasta! You can blend it down if you prefer for younger babies.
Pasta Options:
I’ve been loving using some “pasta alternatives” recently too. Things like lentil, chick pea or fava bean pasta work so well these days and are such great replacements to standard pasta. They also usually come with a little extra protein, iron and some additional nutrients. Do make sure you follow the cooking time instructions on the pack though as some of them have short cooking times and I find it’s easy to overdo it and for them become a little soggy!
You can always alternate between normal pasta and these bean style alternatives, which is what I do. I don’t worry about them skipping carbs for one meal every now and then as both Ada and Raffy LOVE their carbs and have plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, and couscous throughout the days/weeks too.
Let me know if you try this recipe.
