A Delicious lunch for Little Ones
Wraps are a fantastic, versatile recipe for babies, toddlers, and even older children. They offer a nice change from the usual sandwiches, adding a bit of excitement to mealtimes. Plus, they are incredibly quick and easy to prepare, making them a busy parent’s best friend.
These easy-prep pinwheel wraps, featured in my fourth book, The Ultimate Weaning and Toddler Cookbook, are a perfect example. Filled with shredded cooked chicken (or tofu), you can either buy the chicken pre-cooked or simply roast a chicken breast at home. Once that’s done, assembling the wraps takes just five minutes.
What makes these wraps truly special is their balance of flavours and nutrients. They are packed with nutrition, making them an ideal, well-rounded lunch option. A unique twist that sets these toddler-friendly wraps apart is the addition of grated apple. This clever trick not only adds a touch of sweetness but also boosts the vitamin C and fibre content.
So, if you’re looking for a quick, nutritious, and delicious meal for your little ones, give these pinwheel wraps a try. They are sure to become a family favourite!
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 20-25minutes (unless using pre-cooked chicken, or tofu)
Serves: 1 adult and 2 babies/toddlers
Ingredients
- 1 free-range skinless and boneless chicken breast (about 120g) or 60g tofu
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 wholemeal large wraps
- 2 tbsp thick Greek yogurt or non-dairy alternative
- a handful of spinach, washed and finely chopped
- 1 small apple, cored and grated
- 1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast (or you can use cheese instead, if you prefer)

Method
- Preheat the oven to 200C/180 fan. Pop the chicken breast on a baking tray, drizzle with oil and bake for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. Leave to one side and shred when cool enough to handle (or use precooked chicken strips, just make sure they are soft enough for your baby or toddler)
- On a clean board, lay out the wraps, dollop each with yogurt, then spread it evenly over the whole wrap surface.
- Lay the shredded chicken down the middle of each of the wraps (or crumble in the tofu), then do the same with the chopped spinach and grated apple. Sprinkle over the nutritional yeast, then roll up each wrap really tightly.
- Cut one wrap into 2-cm thick rounds and pop on a plate for your little one. You can just eat yours as a wrap or cut in half and enjoy.
