A Simple, Savoury Winner for Weaning!
If you’re looking for easy baby weaning recipes that are nutritious, quick to make, and perfect for busy parents, a frittata is always a winner! I’ve had so many lovely messages asking for this baby frittata recipe, and it’s one of my go-to meals for little ones. I used to give it to both of my two when they were little.
These mini frittatas are brilliant for baby-led weaning or spoon-fed babies who are ready for more texture. They’re soft, packed with veggies, and ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner – or even as a healthy snack on the go for older toddlers.
Why This Recipe Works for Weaning?
When you’re in the thick of introducing solids, it’s so helpful to have a few nutritious baby meals up your sleeve that don’t take ages to prep. This recipe is:
- Quick and easy
- Freezer-friendly
- Full of iron-rich veggies
- Great for self-feeding and finger food practice
Plus, it’s a fab way to introduce new flavours and textures in a gentle, baby-friendly way.
Ingredients
approx. 4–6 mini frittatas
- 5 mushrooms (chopped)
- 2 large handfuls of spinach
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of plain flour
- A little oil for cooking
Method
- Lightly grill or fry the mushrooms until soft.
- Add the spinach to the pan and let it wilt gently on top of the mushrooms.
- Transfer everything to a blender, add the egg and flour, and blitz until smooth (or leave it a little chunky if your baby is ready for more texture).
- Heat a little oil in a frying pan and spoon in small dollops of the mixture—cook on a medium heat until golden on both sides.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.

Can You Freeze Baby Frittatas?
Yes! These frittatas are perfect for batch cooking and freezing. Once cooled, pop them into a freezer-safe container and defrost as needed. They’re ideal for baby meals on the go or when you need something quick and nutritious in a pinch.
Serving Suggestions for Babies
These frittatas are lovely served with:
- A dollop of hummus
- A simple homemade tomato sauce
- Or just on their own as a soft, easy-to-hold finger food for babies
Ingredient Swaps & Add-Ins
This recipe is super flexible, so feel free to adapt it based on what you have:
- No mushrooms? Try grated courgette, finely chopped red pepper, or cooked sweet potato.
- No spinach? Kale or chard works well too – just make sure it’s cooked and soft.
- Want to add more protein? A sprinkle of grated cheese or a spoonful of cooked lentils can be a great addition.
- Gluten-free? Swap the flour for oat flour or chickpea flour.
