With no added sugar or salt
This baby scone recipe is a simple, family-friendly recipe that work brilliantly as a snack for babies and toddlers (and even adults enjoy them too). They’re ideal for days when you want something quick to make and easy to pack for outings or for lunchboxes or after-school snacks.
These baby scones contains no added salt and no added sugar, so they make an ideal food for babies and children of all ages. You can bake these as mini scones (around 14) or make 7–8 larger scones, depending on the size of your cutter. They’re quick, straightforward and a really handy option to have up your sleeve, and in your freezer!
Ingredients:
- 230g / 8oz self-raising flour (try half wholemeal and half white flour)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 60g / 2oz low-salt soft butter / vegan spread
- 1 small apple, grated
- 1 large handful of sultanas
- A few splashes of semi-skimmed or plant milk (to get the right consistency)
Method:
- Sift half wholemeal self-raising flour and half white self-raising flour into a bowl.
- Add the baking powder and mix well.
- Rub the butter into the mixture with your fingers until combined (it will still be fairly dry at this stage).
- Stir in the grated apple and sultanas and mix well.
- Add enough milk to make a dough—not too wet, but sticky enough to bind the ingredients into a ball.
- Roll out the dough to around 2cm thick.
- Use a glass or round cutter to cut out scone shapes.
- Transfer to a baking tray and bake in a hot oven (220°C) for 10–15 minutes.
- Serve with fresh strawberries and natural yoghurt.
