We often think of homemade bread as something that takes a long time to make, with lots of kneading, proving and planning ahead. This toddler friendly bread recipe is here to show that it does not have to be that way. It is quick, simple and made in just one bowl, making it much more achievable for busy family life.
Alongside being speedy, this loaf is packed with lots of extras too. It includes a mix of flours and oats, seeds for added fibre and healthy fats, eggs and yoghurt for softness and structure, and the option to add in grated vegetables such as carrot or courgette. The result is a soft, sliceable bread that works well for toddlers but can be enjoyed by the whole family.
It also freezes well and is easy to adapt based on what you have in the cupboard, making it a really handy recipe to come back to again and again.
This toddler friendly bread is delicious served with dips, thinly spread nut/seed butters or lightly toasted with some mashed avocado and egg. My blog 10 healthy sandwich fillers also has lots more ideas.
Ingredients
Dry
- 160g flour total:
- 80g plain flour (you can use white, wholemeal or 50/50)

- 40g porridge oats
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 2 tbsp ground sunflower seeds
- 1½ tsp baking powder
Wet
- 2 medium eggs, beaten
- 150g plain full-fat yoghurt (or use a natural plant-based yoghurt alternative)

- 3 tbsp olive oil
Optional veg
- One handful of finely grated carrot or courgette (be sure to squeeze out excess moisture first from the courgette, if using).

- Add all ingredients to one bowl (dry first, then wet).
- Mix gently until just combined – a thick but spoonable batter.
- Spoon into the tin and smooth the top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden and a skewer comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes in the tin, then fully on a rack.
