I love an easy and nutritious loaf recipe and this one is one of my children’s all-time favourites. It first appeared in my book, How To Feed Your Toddler and is a really quick, fuss-free option that makes a fantastic snack. This fruity bread tastes a bit like malt loaf and gets a hit of sweetness from banana, cocoa and raisins. Try serving it with a dollop of yogurt and a few squashed raspberries – or just spread with butter. For babies and toddlers, ensure you soak the raisins first or chop them up well.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 30 minutes
Makes: 1 loaf
Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas, peeled
- 75ml vegetable oil
- 4 tbsp milk of choice
- 225g self-raising flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- 100g raisins, soaked or well chopped
Plain yogurt or butter and a few berries, to serve.

Method
- Preheat the oven to 200C/180 fan. Line a 900g loaf tin with greaseproof paper.
- Mash the bananas in a bowl, then add the oil and milk and stir together.
- Add the flour, cocoa powder and mixed spice and mix well. Stir in the raisins.
- Pour the batter into the tin and bake for 30 minutes or until browned on top and cooked through, so a skewer inserted into the centre of the loaf comes out clean. Leave to cool a little in the tin (it will firm up as it cools) before slicing and serving. You can store this bread in an airtight container for 3 days or freeze for another day.
