If you are on the hunt for a quick, nutritious lunch that takes less than 15 minutes to throw together, this easy veggie pizza wraps recipe is the ideal recipe.
As parents, we’ve all had those days where the fridge is looking a bit bare, or we have random single veggie
s starting to look a little sad. This recipe is the ultimate “fridge raid” meal. It’s incredibly versatile, packed with nutrition, and can make a simple alternative to shop-bought pizzas, which can often be surprisingly high in salt.Whether you have a baby just starting out on their weaning journey or a pizza loving, this recipe is great for the whole family.
Why you and your little one will love this recipe
- Packed with veggies: This recipe lets you use up whatever you have on hand. Mushrooms offer essential B vitamins, peppers bring a sweet crunch and a hit of Vitamin C, and tomatoes add juicy flavor.
- Iron and vitamin C: By combining butter beans (which are a plant-based source of iron and protein) with peppers and tomatoes (high in Vitamin C), you actually help your child’s body absorb that iron much more efficiently!
- Calcium: Cheese can be a good source of calcium, energy and fat so support growing little ones.
- Naturally lower in salt: Shop-bought pizzas can often be high in salt, which isn’t ideal for young babies. This recipe uses a simple tomato puree and water mix for a delicious, low-salt pizza sauce base.
Safety & Weaning Tips
When cooking for babies and toddlers, it’s important to prepare foods safely depending on their skills
- Butter Beans: Whole, round beans can be a choking hazard for babies. For infants aged 6–8 months, you can mash the beans into the sauce. For babies aged 9–12 months and older toddlers, give them a good squash flat with the back of a fork.
- Cherry Tomatoes: Always dice or quarter cherry tomatoes to eliminate any choking risk.
- Cheese: Grating cheese makes it safer for babies, but also helps for older babies to practice their pincer grip. Read more about cheese in our detailed post about introducing cheese to babies.
- The Wraps: Wholemeal wraps are a good source of fibre, but did you know that too much fibre can sometimes fill up under-2s before they get the calories they need? It’s completely fine to alternate between wholemeal and white wraps! For more on choosing bread, check out our guide on how to choose the best bread for your baby or toddler.
