It’s that time of year again! I feel the cold a lot and for me there is nothing better than a nice warming, comforting meal in the evening. I love eating together in the winter and sharing soups, sauces and stews with thick crusty bread!
Luckily my kids quite like it too, so I’ve created a whole host of Winter Warmer Recipes for you to share this winter with your family. Most of these recipes are super for everyone in the whole family, but you might just need to mash some of the textures or give part of the recipe a little blend for younger babies.
Most of the recipes I’ve shared are easily freezable and perfect to make in bulk and store for a rainy day. I also love the versatility of many of them too – you can offer stews with couscous, rice, bread, or even on pasta or potatoes. So, it’s a meal that can last a while and make up a few different meal options!
1. Bean Stew Recipe
This baby-friendly bean stew is a super easy one for the whole family and one with lots of flavour and plenty of veggies! My kids love this one so I always make it in bulk and have a stash in the freezer. It’s also super versatile so you can use whichever veggies you have available.
2. Roasted Pumpkin Soup
Another versatile one, this bean and pumpkin soup can even be used as a pasta sauce instead! Great for the winter and has a nice smooth taste so the kids usually love it. It also contains beans to add that balance and protein portion!
3. Easy Cheesy Pie
One of my favourite recipes to date – my easy cheesy pie! It is super simple to make and another which is easy to switch up the veggies you have depending on what the kids love or what needs using up!
4. Mushroom Stroganoff recipe
This chickpea and mushroom stroganoff has always been a popular recipe of mine and I need to make it again this winter, especially with Ada’s love for mushrooms. You can top this with ground nuts, nutritional yeast or just a dollop of yogurt to add a little extra too!
5. Creamy Lemony Salmon Bake
I recently shared my creamy lemony salmon bake recipe from my book as it was one of the most popular ones, and I wanted to share it with everyone! It’s very easy to put together and a really delicious one for everyone in the family. I also made it with tofu and it worked well too!
6. Healthy Enchilada Recipe
I LOVE an enchilada recipe, and this kind of food. Delicious. You can experiment a lot with flavours in this recipe too, it’s perfect for trying different ingredients and it tends to be a big hit with the children too. Especially when you add some cheese and sweetcorn to the mix!
7. Easy Beef and Tomato Sauce
If you’re looking for ease and simplicity this easy beef and tomato sauce recipe is the one for you! Sometimes I just LOVE a basic pasta sauce and pasta for dinner. Anyone else? It’s also a great one to freeze and whip out later for a speedy meal.
8. Cauliflower Macaroni Cheese
Winter warmers probably wouldn’t be complete without a mac and cheese recipe, right? This Cauliflower Macaroni Cheese recipe also has a way of turning into a perfect snack for baby or toddlers too, so check out that alternative!
9. Butternut Squash & Butterbean Pasta Bake
This hearty squash and butterbean pasta bake recipe is another lovely warmer that offers plant-based protein from the butter beans as well as iron. A great one for the whole family, I’ve given instructions on how to adapt it for young babies.
10. No Added Sugar Apple Crumble Recipe
And time for a sweeter option! I just LOVE a crumble recipe, and this No Added Sugar Apple Crumble is low in sugar but with no compromise on taste! Making it perfect for young children. With added dates and a lovely kick of cinnamon and orange zest, this one is the perfect winter dessert.
