In this blog, I’m sharing my recipe for no-bake, no-added sugar energy bites – which are a perfect after school snack option or to have on the go whilst out and about.
It’s very common online to see supposedly ‘sugar-free’ recipes for energy balls or bites which are made with honey, agave syrup, date paste etc. It’s important to know that these are ALL still SUGARS. You can read more about whether sugar alternatives are healthier for kids here.
I know how confusing sugar can be for parents so if you want to learn a little more about sugar, free sugars and what counts, take a look at my blog, The Truth About Sugar which really helps to dispel myths and explain clearly what SUGAR actually is. You might also like to have a look at how I manage sweets, cakes, chocolate and biscuits for young children.
So today I’ve come up with my very own recipe, which uses a fraction of the sugar (from blended dates) compared to a lot of the other recipes you’ll find online. This recipe is really simple, and a great recipe to try cooking with the kids. Do let me know what you think of them and if you try them out yourselves – they’re very quick and easy to make and very tasty, too.
Makes around 8 energy balls
